How Social Media Reacted to a weekend of European Rugby
European quarter-finals weekend is always a special one on the calendar, and this year was no different, with Leinster and Munster keeping the Guinness PRO14 flame alive after a thrilling round of Champions Cup action.
The reigning PRO14 and Champions Cup winners edged out Irish rivals Ulster in a thriller, while Munster held off Edinburgh Rugby in a tightly-fought affair to set up semi-finals against Toulouse and Saracens respectively.
It was the Glasgow Warriors who fell to the Premiership side to set up their final-four clash against the Munstermen, while in the Challenge Cup, Connacht – the last Guinness PRO14 outfit remaining in the competition – were beaten by Sale Sharks.
Here’s how it all unfolded on social media

How the media reacted
What a game of rugby that was. Ferocious for 80 mins. Never let up. Tip of the cap to both sets of players. #LeinVUls

I’m going for a lie down.
Sensational weekend of rugby. We’ve been absolutely spoiled.

What a game! Some key moments, some of the Ulster players had the game of their lives! Ross Byrne stepped up when it mattered. Gutted for the Ulster boys but a few big weeks ahead and still silverwear out there for the taking!

Applause for the great Keith Earls when Munster players and supporters came together after the game. The bond remains as close as ever. Fantastic travelling support today #EDIvMUN pic.twitter.com/Pig8cO9U9p

A stupendous encounter. Match of the season at the Aviva, or probably anywhere else for that matter. Ulster died with their boots on and made Leinster did deeper than they’ve had to do all season. Bench, savvy, going to their line-out maul, got them there. Atmosphere stunning.

“I know what you want me to say and I’m not going to say it… there’s not that many people in the world that can beat that many players to get into the position to get the ball down. I’m proud of Jacob.”

What the fans are saying…
A Munster fan turned to me at full time and said ‘we got out of jail, you guys were better.’
To be honest Munster are clinical and their defence was outrageous. Well done!
Munster come out on top and even as gutted as I am, I have no complaints. #ALWAYSEDINBURGH

Even though yesterday didn’t go to plan, it had been a good European season for @GlasgowWarriors. It shows us what level we need to get to if we want to be lifting the pro14 title later in the year. #WeAreWarriors

Ulster won’t want to hear it right now, but that was one of the best performances I’ve seen from them for years. Absolutely outstanding, test match quality game #LEIvULS
