LACUNA COIL’s CRISTINA SCABBIA States Next Generation Is ‘F ** ked’ Since Of Social network: ‘They Have No Idea How Reality Is’
France’s Loud TV recently performed an interview with frontwoman Cristina Scabbia of Italian alternative metallers LACUNA COIL. You can see the entire chat listed below. A few excerpts follow (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).
On whether their upcoming ” Black Anima” studio album is “angrier” than 2016’s ” Delirium”:.
Cristina: “Of course it’s the next step, it’s the next record. It is in some way, a development of the band from ‘ Delirium’, however the record is entirely detached from ‘ Delirium’. We made sure, however, that we wished to keep the heaviness going due to the fact that we just like to play live the heavier songs. They’re more fun for us; they’re captivating for us to play. So we wanted to follow this direction on ‘ Black Anima’, even though there are a lot of tunes that are mellow or at least slower, however they still have that ‘disturbing’ vibe going on that I like quite, so that can be connected to ‘ Delirium’ somehow. We’re not [upset] at all; we’re really very favorable individuals. It’s not anger. I do not believe any person’s afraid anymore of screams and roars in metal because that belongs to the bundle. There was no anger. It’s more about a reflection on life and really being concentrated on more vital things and forgetting the little things and the bullshit that are often we are too focused on. It was a more mature record, yet, very [reflective] and likewise disturbing at times. A few of the tunes put you in a mood that you’re, like, ‘Why am I seeming like this? But I like it.’ We desired to stop the listener and just, like, sit down, show where you’re at, how’s your life, believe about how you can improve, think of where you are right now. That makes me realize that I might be old since often I think, too, myself that the new generation is sort of fucked, particularly with social media. They have actually lost control. They often have no idea how real life is. They’re always ready to judge everybody else. Everyone has a viewpoint even if they have no idea what they are discussing. Everybody is a judge and everyone is ready to leap on the train of haters. This is sort of fucked up. A great deal of individuals are stating, ‘Do not feed the giants.’ I have the opposite mindset. If somebody pertains to my pages or to a LACUNA COIL page, much like there to throw shit to us, I respond. I’m not the person that is, like, ‘Okay, I’ll block you.’ I will address you. I don’t mind if other fans will jump on board and will kick your ass. You did something that wasn’t right, so you need to comprehend that what you did was incorrect. And if I block you and I erase your message, it’s like I’m not taking notice of you. But what I want to do is ‘I focused on you. You’re an idiot. You need to understand that whatever you do brings an effect.’ So, if the repercussion is me answering and offering you two minutes of attention, it’s not too bad if other individuals tell you’re an asshole and will maybe make you hesitate about what you did.”.
On whether LACUNA COIL has to explore more due to the existing state of the music market:.
Cristina: “We still like to keep a balance due to the fact that we feel that for the durability of the band, it’s really important to keep a balance in between your music, which you love and your task, however also your individual life because I have known numerous bands who gave up just because they were too worn out of touring. I comprehend that you need to visit a lot due to the fact that you desire to touch every territory. If you tire your batteries, there’s no coming back. As soon as you’re tired, once you’re disliking this job, it’s, like, ‘I don’t desire to do it any longer.’ And there will not be a break to repair this. That’s why at a certain part in our profession, we stated, ‘We’re visiting excessive. We’re specifying where we’re almost disliking each other at the end of every trip due to the fact that we’re seeing each other’s faces every day in a condition that is precisely not comfortable, far from house, far from our enjoyed ones, far from our little products.’ We said, ‘Let’s find out to be more selective. We don’t need to do three trips in the same territory in one month. We would love to do it. If the third time we don’t go back with the exact same enthusiasm, that’s not excellent. Let’s take more time in between. Let’s pick the gigs we’re going to play. And we’re going to do it with more enthusiasm and more energy.’ That was exactly how it worked. In the beginning, I had doubts. I like visiting, I like traveling. So, I was settling on touring and touring and I didn’t understand that I was tiring my batteries also. I was, like, ‘No, we have to continue touring. It’s cool since we need to touch this area and we need to play occasionally.’ Then I recognized we were getting worn out of it. You can feel the tension. You can feel the ‘I do not wish to play tonight. Oh, we need to play another program.’ I don’t like this due to the fact that if you’re imitating this, you’re dragging everyone down. That didn’t take place since we took this mindful choice. It didn’t occur. We’re still playing a lot of shows. It’s ideal.”.
