TEENAGERS are being alerted the ‘Cent Challenge’ might eliminate as the viral pattern sweeping social networks risks electrocution and fire.
The viral video game, which began on video sharing app TikTok, sees teens plug part of a battery charger into a wall, prior to touching the exposed prongs with a cent to create a spark.
Michael Clusker, Station House Supervisor in Carlisle, Cumbria, has blasted the “hazardous” video game, warning it might spark deadly blazes.
He stated: “The outcome from this is that somebody will get seriously injured.
“Every year there are varieties of people killed by electrical shocks. It can kill you if it gets you right.
“Anything that interferes with electrical equipment– unless you are a qualified electrician– is extremely harmful.”
In one case in the USA, firefighters had to race to a school when a teen dropped a cent on the prongs of an iPhone charger plugged into an outlet.
Mr Clusker says the teenagers should be more accountable.
He stated: “I do think social media is an issue, giving people ideas that are probably not ideal.
“Individuals ought to take responsibility for their own actions.
“In my 25 years in the job I have seen the repercussions of individuals overstepping the mark when it comes to displaying.
