Residents identified the woman as dining establishment server Mariesa Stewart, who presumably posted the discuss the Bayside Facebook group on Sept. 15.
Residents then began flooding the comment areas on Brian Dempsey’s Yelp, Instagram and Facebook pages, the latter of which was temporarily closed down prior to Sept. 26. In addition, resident Koy Penguina, who wanted to utilize an alias for protection, stated that the admin of the restaurant’s Instagram was deleting comments calling out the racist habits.
“Brian Demsey– your employees are the face and reflection of your establishment. I will no longer support your bar as your bartender supports bigotry versus Chinese and Koreans,” said one Yelp poster.
“However seeing how [I’m] just a [cockroach] in the eyes of their staff, me and the other roaches will take our business elsewhere. It’s been a fun 9+ years going to this establishment. Sad understanding this is how they actually felt of me going there,” composed another Yelp reviewer.
Stewart, who initially looked like “Mariesa Mc Cluskey Stewart” on Facebook, altered her name to “Mariesa Stewart” in the middle of the backlash. She then provided a statement on her page declaring that someone had actually “hacked” or “cloned” her Facebook.
Penguina said that she and her friends reported Stewart’s original comment, which boiled down the exact same day it was posted.
Brian Dempsey’s, which simply commemorated 25 years of organisation on Sept. 21, provided the following statement on its main Facebook page:
“We are mindful of the racist comments being flowed around the social media space. Brian Dempsey’s does not condone nor accept these hateful remarks. We are situated in one of the majority of diverse areas worldwide, which is abundant in culture. We have functioned for 25 years and we owe much of our success to the [Queens] neighborhood. We consider diversity to be a basic worth to be completely upheld, respected and are dealing with a solution so that we can much better serve this community. We are deeply saddened to see this and use our support to those who have been [impacted] and angered by this unfortunate situation.”
However Penguina said that in addition to the declaration, the Chinese and Korean neighborhoods wanted the restaurant to formally apologize. When she connected to the facility, she said they duplicated that Stewart’s Facebook had actually been hacked.
QNS ask for additional comment from Brian Dempsey’s was not right away addressed.
